I'm your host, Greg Sergeant. At a recent fundraiser Donald Trump promised some of the

richest donors in the country, some of them billionaires, that he would

dramatically cut their taxes.

At that same fundraiser, Trump also reportedly suggested he wants more immigrants from countries like Norway,

while blasting those who migrate northward from south of the US as criminals and worse.

That dual talk neatly captures what Trump is really up to, promising huge giveaways to wealthy

elites so they either overlook or actively embrace extreme far right

and authoritarian governance. This comes amid a lot of talk lately about how corporate elites are

increasingly persuaded that they can work with the second Trump administration,

despite Trump's insurrection, his embrace of political violence, and his open explicit promise of an unchecked and lawless second term.

who has closely studied what the lessons of history tell us about what happens when conservative

elites make common cause with authoritarian and fascist movements.
