Hello everyone and welcome to the Girls' Camp podcast. I'm your host, Haley Roll, and I am joined

today by Camille Miskin. I actually didn't get the pronunciation before we started, but I will be calling

you Cammy. You said I'm allowed. Cammy is a licensed social worker who specializes in grief and

death and also a death dula and also a fellow ex-Mormon. So we are going to be chatting all things,

death and grief. If you listen to the podcast,

you know, this has been a huge part of my journey is I deconstructed Mormonism. My dad died

unexpectedly about a year and a half ago. And I feel like death has become just kind of like a really

pivotal concept for me as I'm thinking about life,

thinking about spirituality, thinking about reconstruction. So you are just the gal to talk us all through it.

Thank you for being here. Yeah, of course. I'm, I'm nearly speechless. But if you get me going, I'm going to talk a lot about death, just because for the weirdest reason, and that's actually part of the mystery to me, is I can't stop learning about this.

Or I've always been interested in this.

Yes, I'm so excited to get into that part of it.

Before we dive in, can you just give us your background in a nutshell, specifically, like the Mormon background?

Yeah, so pioneer stock, I was often, I don't know, given stories of my pioneer heritage,

often heard the saying of like, you know, so-and-so died for you to have this religion

which by the way I'll get into that yeah wow I'm like hmm did they though what did they live for

like I'm more curious about that um but anyway I actually really enjoyed my time in the church

I'm the youngest of eight children. And so it was

actually the easiest way to attach to my caregivers and to my siblings. If I did everything I could

to just have fun in the church, and I mean fun, Like, it is fun. It just made everything smoother and better.

And, like, whatever attention they had for me, it was amplified if it was in the church.
