For this Pray the Word episode, I want to read a couple of verses from the Old Testament,

Deuteronomy chapter 21, and then I want to read a verse from Galatians chapter 3.

First, Deuteronomy, chapter 21, verses 22 and 23.

God says, if a man has committed a crime punishable by death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain

all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God.

So it's cursed to be hung on a tree. That's what happens for a crime punishable by death,

according to Old Testament law at that point. Now, Galatians

chapter 3, verse 13. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us,

for it is written. Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree. So Paul in the book of Galatians

is talking about the gospel, about the good news of Jesus dying on a cross. And in Galatians

chapter 3, he quotes from Deuteronomy chapter 21 verses 22 and 23, saying,

remember the Old Testament law?

What God said, a hanged man is cursed by God.

And the picture here in Galatians chapter 3, Paul is saying, Jesus endured the curse of sin.

He experienced the punishment of death.

Why?

So that we might be redeemed from the curse of the law.

meditate on the gospel day in and day out all day long, and this is that moment today when you

are reminded, when I am reminded that we have been redeemed, we have been made new, we have been
