Welcome back to the Sean Atwood Channel.

I'm Ron Swanson.

We're here live with Melissa Spears, diving into her book,

Holy Disobedience and looking at her whole story. And it's going to be a bit of a journey.

But before you get started, Melissa, tell us a little bit about yourself, introduce yourself,

let us know who you are. Absolutely. So I am, oh, there you got the

book. I was going to say, I have my little handy dandy, like little cue here, but I am a fourth

generation, seventh day Adventist now, ex-adventist, and we'll get into what that church is,

but it's an extremely high control fundamentalist Christian church.

And I found I left the church when I was 18 and then I found out in midlife that my father,

who had been one of their youth pastors, had been a serial child predator in the church.

And so I, you know, and I always thought he was the most magical, wonderful person. Like I had no clue.

And so it was very shocking and it ended up really kind of, I ended up finding and befriending one of

his victims, his original victims. And she really helped me. She pointed me at a lot of the

really dirty, scary, gross, icky stuff in the Seventh-day Adventist

Church, and she kind of helped me heal from a lot of it. And I wrote the book about all of that.
