Summary

In 1999, four women were found murdered in the greater Montreal area. They all lived alone, there were no signs of forced entry, and the crime scenes were so violent that even the most seasoned of investigators were shocked. But one day, the killer would make a mistake. This is the story of the crimes of the Quebec serial killer known as “The Killer Handyman”.

Hi friends, just two things before I start. Firstly, on December 1st of every year, Apple Podcasts

0:07.0

names its best podcasts, and I was thrilled to see Canadian True Crime selected as one of the 10

0:13.2

biggest shows of 2020 for Canada. And I'm sharing this space with some absolute powerhouses,

0:19.9

like The Daily, This American Life,

0:22.5

stuff you should know, Oprah's Super Soul Conversations and more. In fact, the only other

0:28.2

Canadian produced podcast in this list of 10 is CBC Uncover, which you should check out if you

0:34.5

haven't already. Hopefully there'll be more Canadian podcasts on

0:38.8

the list next year, but I wanted to thank you all for listening. I started this podcast as a

0:44.4

nobody with no broadcasting background, no network support and no social media following.

0:50.2

So to be able to grow this much organically in less than four years is very cool and quite humbling.

0:57.3

And it's all because of you guys who listen to my episodes and tell your friends about the podcast.

1:03.5

So thank you so, so much.

1:05.3

And I look forward to another year of creating episodes for you to listen to.

1:10.4

And while I'm here, thanks also for

1:13.0

the great feedback about the Mad Trapper of Rat River episode. I think a lot of people were

1:18.5

surprised about this story, including me. As you remember, one of the main characters was

1:24.2

Gwichon Special Constable, who I called Lazarus Citacullus, who was instrumental in the

1:30.9

manhunt. His great-granddaughter reached out to me with some interesting information. She told me his

1:37.5

name has been widely misreported as Citaculis instead of his actual name, which is Citicinli. This era was in McLean's magazine,

1:47.8

RCMP Historical Reports, news articles, several of the books written on the case, and unfortunately

1:53.6

it also made it to my episode. So, I'm recognising Lazarus Citicinley, the First Nations elder and Gwichan's special constable

2:03.2

known for his skills in hunting and trapping and his knowledge of the land.
