Today we are talking about the Cowden family. Who would go on a fun family camping trip during the Labor Day weekend of 1974?

And this decision would lead to a mystery more than 50 years old.

Now, the family lived in White City, Oregon. Richard was 28 and worked as a logging truck driver,

and his wife, Belinda, was 22. They had two children, David, who was five, and Melissa, who was five months.

And the family loved to camp. So she had David when she was like 17.

On August 30 of 1974, Richard and Belinda took their two children and their Basset Hound,

Droopy, who was a puppy, by the way, they went camping at Sisku Mountains,

which are a coastal subrange of the Klamath Mountains in northwestern California and southwestern Oregon.

And they would be on the Oregon side in a town named Cooperville. Now, Cooperville actually

no longer exists and it was inundated with water in order to create Applegate Lake in 1980.
