Making big changes in life and overcoming the resistance procrastination that gets in the way of taking those necessary authentic steps in life.

So in the West, Buddhism is, of course,

deeply associated with meditation.

When we think of Buddhism, probably the first image that pops into your mind,

is somebody that's sitting on top of a cushion,

inwardly focused, paying attention to the arising and passing of the breath or feelings or emotional

states.

And there's this great emphasis upon, as the emphasis is upon internal inquiry,

there's also an association with Buddhism and acceptance,

because the emphasis upon investigating one's internal experience means that for a while we have to put aside the tendency to fix, solve, address, put out issues in our life.

And so to the degree that we emphasize meditation

is to the degree that we at times

make a willing decision to put aside the need to do, to be involved to take care of

to fix or address. Of course in the West this is also known by mindfulness. Mindfulness

is essentially grabs up into a knee package three of the Buddha's eightfold path. The three factors

essentially revolve around the effort to stay internally focused, the

concentration which allows us to settle the mind

on things like the breath or sounds, and then mindfulness itself is the investigation

of the rising and passing of different internal states.

So all of the three factors associated with meditation are of course inwardly focused. we're becoming aware of what's going on
