I'm a journalist in the US in the settler colony known as the United States of America

and I am the assistant editor of an investigative journalism website called the Gray Zone and we focus on US Empire.

It's investigative reporting focusing on the crimes of US imperialism and especially in the past few years we focused a lot on Latin America because you know in the Obama administration of course the US was still overthrowing independent leftist governments in the region,

still exercising this kind of neo-colonial control over the region.

But under Trump, it's really gone to new heights to the degree where you now have several Trump administration

officials openly invoking the Monroe Doctrine, which is the explicitly colonial 200-year-old U.S. colonial doctrine that treats

Latin America as its own backyard.

So in the past two years, I have done reporting in Colombia, Venezuela, Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador, so there's a lot of stuff happening in Bolivia is unfortunately the latest in this longer

pattern right of neo-colonial aggression against this region which has been trying to

free itself and just fight for independence and we have

seen what's happening now in Brazil.

Yeah and I think it's almost been a year since Trump was at the United Nations actually invoking the

Monroe Doctrine and this kind of like hemispheric manifest destiny that the United States

not only has lays claim to its you know contiguous

land base with which is now known as like the 48 states and of course like

Hawaii Puerto Rico Guam Guam, and Alaska, which are not connected, but it also

is saying that it controls the destiny and the future of the entire hemisphere.

And this actually proceeds, the Monroe doctrine actually precedes. of the

future of the entire hemisphere and this goes this actually precedes
