There are moments in history when you feel the floorboards buckle beneath your feet, when the system you thought was built to protect you

reveals itself as hollow, rigid, or simply indifferent. And in the past week, America got another

brutal reminder that the floodwaters don't care about your politics. They don't care about

red states, blue states, or slogans. They rise. And if you're standing in their way,

especially without warning, they take everything. In Texas, the rains came hard and fast.

Entire communities were swallowed, families stranded on rooftops, first responders completely overwhelmed.

And the question echoing under the floodwaters was this.

Why didn't we see this coming?

Well, the truth is, we did, or at least we could have, but we didn't want to pay for the warning.

Because somewhere between the campaign promises and the budget cuts, someone, someone decided

that the National Weather Service and the NOAA, agencies literally tasked with saving American

lives, were expendable. That real-time satellite data, storm

modeling, and local forecasting weren't essential enough. And so they slashed the funding.

They rerouted it into, I don't know, border walls, tax breaks, and other political monuments.

And now, right now, the cost is being paid in lives.
