Hey, remember Ukraine, that thing? Next week will be one year exactly since Russia invaded,

precipitating the largest conflict in Europe since World War II, even bigger than soccer rioting in France. From where I'm at,

the situation looks rather bleak. According to the people I've spoken with,

Ukrainians are understandably militant about defending their homeland.

It was one thing to concede partial autonomy or neutrality in the hope of avoiding war.

But now, to do anything short of completely pushing

Russia out of Ukrainian soil would be to admit that the death of thousands of

Ukrainian soldiers, let alone civilians, was for not.

So Ukraine is admirably digging in.
