Kristaps Andrejsons is the host of "Eastern Borders" podcast, which formerly explored Soviet History, and is now an in-the-field news report on the conflict in Ukraine.
Kristaps is a big NATO proponent and promotes strong American intervention in Ukraine. I've brought him on to contrast with the positions of this week's guest, Ben Abelow.
Also--Kristaps got banned from Twitter when an argument about Ukraine and Russia got out of hand. We discuss the circumstances.

0:00.0 | Hello Heaton here. Occasionally patrons of the show ask me to take a bonus episode from behind the paywall and put it on the main feet and because I fear them I oblige. |
0:11.0 | So you're about to hear a bonus episode of the program which patrons have freed up for you, |
0:15.6 | specifically as a counterweight to last week's show with Ben Abello about Ukraine, |
0:21.3 | which was probably the single most reviled and inflammatory program |
0:26.2 | to ever appear on this podcast. |
0:28.3 | If I got listener feedback as physical letters instead of email, I could have used them to heat my house this winter in the furnace. |
0:36.4 | Although I will note, all of the pushback I got from patrons of the show, and it was a lot, |
0:42.0 | consisted of infuriated yet well-written diatribes that were |
0:46.9 | logically constructed and impeccably polite, and most of them ended with some variation of the following. I would rather you be earnestly |
0:56.7 | wrong than buckle and just say whatever you think is popular, keep doing what you're doing. |
1:04.8 | That's great because I feel the same way. |
1:06.4 | I've been in political media coming up on a decade now and I can tell you there's a lot of people |
1:10.7 | out there that form their opinions based on avoiding trouble with their |
1:16.0 | base and accruing applause from their audience. They're not as much concerned with what's right |
1:20.2 | or what works is just what works for them. |
1:23.0 | And I would much, much rather lose this job |
1:26.1 | and do something else then become a hack. |
1:28.7 | Fortunately, fortunately, this is an audience |
1:32.2 | of nice people who like being challenged and want to encounter other ideas, |
1:36.0 | so I think I'm safe for the time being and I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, |
1:41.0 | and be grateful for it. That said, please enjoy the special bonus episode |
1:45.7 | with my friend and very, very lauded war journalist Christoph Anderson talking about Ukraine. Welcome to a bonus episode of the political orphanage gratefully provided to you |
