I always like to lay down a few ground rules before I start to speak, because sometimes when you're

listening to a message, it can be so easy to start assigning that message to all the other people

who need to hear that message, right? And so just to make sure that we are listening for ourselves,

I want you to pick one of your neighbors, and I want you to repeat after me.

This message is for me. I will not use it against you. Okay, now I want you to pick your

second choice neighbor. They're not at all offended that you didn't choose them first. It's fine.

And repeat after me, this message is for me, but you need it more.

All right. With that, let's just go ahead and get into God's word. I'm going to be in 1st Samuel

chapter 25. And if you haven't been in the 1st Samuel in a while,

there is absolutely no shame in turning to the table of contents. Amen? It's in the Old Testament.

First Samuel is right before second Samuel. You're welcome. All right, here we go. First Samuel

25, verse 2. A certain man in Mayone, who had property there at Carmel, was very wealthy.

He had a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing in Carmel.

His name was, and we're going to use the Hebrew pronunciation, Naval. Everyone's saying Namal.

Naval. His name was Naval. Naval. His name was Naval, and his wife's name was Abigail.

She was an intelligent and beautiful woman. Abigail was intelligent and beautiful, but her husband was surly and mean in his dealings. Now, do you think if her husband was surly and mean in his dealings. Now, do you think if her husband was surly and mean

in his business dealings that he suddenly became Prince Charming at home? No. So this is what

Abigail is dealing with at home. Abigail is a beautiful woman. She's an intelligent woman, and she has a

problem. Her home life is hard. Her husband is mean and surly. Now, we're going to see in verse four,

David comes upon the scene. Now, David was in the wilderness. He heard that Naval was shearing sheep. Now, who is this

David? This is the same David, David and Goliath, David, right? David is destined to be the future

king, but he is not yet on the throne because the current king is pursuing David to take his life. So David has escaped out into the wilderness
