Well, this wedding ring that I'm wearing right now is not actually the wedding ring that was given to me on my wedding day.

Because I lost it.

I've been married for about four years, and I lost it about three months in the marriage.

It was completely my fault.

Because almost from the moment I got the wedding ring, I was really uncomfortable with wearing a ring.

So it almost became second nature for me to take it off and just play with it. I'd be in meetings at work, I'd be spinning it on the table, I'd be walking down the hallway, I'd be tossing it in the air. It was off my hand more than it was even on my hand. It drove my coworkers nuts. They tell me again and again and again, Nate, you're going to lose it.

You're going to lose it.

Be careful with it.

Well, one day, I left for work with my ring on and I came home with it off because I had lost it.

And I was dreading telling my wife, because she had told me for three months, Nate, be careful, be careful, be careful, you're going to lose it. And I had to tell her, hey, I wasn't careful. I lost it. And I knew it was a big deal to lose my ring, but I didn't feel like it was actually that big of a deal because what I was going to do is I was going to go to the jeweler and just get a brand new one because I just bought a ring for my wife and I knew that that ring was expensive. And all I knew about guys' rings is that they weren't nearly as expensive. So I was going to go to the jeweler and I did. And I just said, hey, could you pull up the account, the one that my wife bought for me just a few months ago? And could I just get that replaced? And they said, absolutely, they pulled up the

account and they said, if we're going to do that, it's going to cost you $550. To me, I was like,

what are you talking about? I had no idea it was that expensive. I had no idea that was the cost.

I was like, what do you mean? 550 bucks. And they said, well, your wife got the date of your wedding day engraved on it, and she got it rounded on the edges to make it more comfortable, and it was actually a lightweight type of gold. So if you want it to replace, it's going to be $550. I had no clue. So I left that day and I went to Dick'sing Goods and I picked this one up for 20 bucks.

Thinking back to that story, you know, one of the first things that comes to mind is just to put it kindly.

I was so unintelligent.

But here's the takeaway from that story.

I was careless with a gift because I had no idea how much it cost.

I was reckless with this gift that my wife had given me because I thought I could just get a brand new one.

I could walk in there, hand them a 20 and get a brand new one.
