Welcome back to the podcast. I'm Alexandra Rogi, and today I'm speaking with the first ever compliance consultant to the U.S. Department of Justice fraud section.

She resigned in May 15th of this year, and we'll talk a bit more about the nature of that resignation in a few minutes.

So let's start by talking a little bit about the role of the compliance council at the

Department of Justice.

I referred to you in an article as the compliance whisperer, and a surprising number of people

seem to think that description was about right, which makes you sound both mysterious and

like the only person who could possibly do that job. So why don't you talk a little bit about

the selection process and your background and what you understood the job to be.

Well, it's a compliance whisperer. I like that, I have to say. I came from having done

compliance work in three different industries. I started with Microsoft as initially with them

doing work in the field in the Greater China region based in Beijing.

And then I moved from there to Pfizer in New York, running their international investigations

in different parts of the world.

And then I moved from there to the financial services sector, and I worked for a standard

charter bank in London.

So from those experiences, I was able to have a view of compliance as done both at

headquarter level and also at the field level and in different industries.

So when I learned that fraud section was looking for someone to serve in the role of a compliance consultant to them,
