Chances are you have played with Legos at some time in your life.

In fact, I think it's safe to say that most kids own at least one set of Legos.

But who for a invented this popular toy?

How long have they been around and how did they get to be such a staple in the toy industry

Well, as is the case with most amazing inventions, Legos started with a bright idea in someone's

head.

The year was 1932.

The place was a little shop in Billand Denmark.

The owner of the shop was a master carpenter named Oli Kirk Christensen.

Oli and his 12 year old son, Godfred Kirk, liked to work together in the shop.

Before the idea of creating Legos came along, Oli mostly made ironing boards and sub ladders,

with an occasional wooden toy when he thought of a good idea for one.

Well, the wooden toys Oli created became very popular and soon he was putting more time
