It is Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Let's get into the mix. Here are your Washington headlines of the day.

Number one, Jamal Bowman loses. Number two, the Energy and Commerce Committee

will mark up a privacy and kids' online safety bill. That's a big deal. And number three,

Tom Emmer opens his wallet. Let's get into it. Jamal Bowman, Democrat from New York,

an outspoken member of the House of Representatives, has lost his election. The member of the

squad has lost a George Latimer in a bitter blow, but not unexpected

blow to the party's left flank.

Listen, Latimer was, this is what you're going to hear from Jamal Bowman's camp,

that Bowman was the subject of a canon of A-PAC money, which is why he lost this

race. And fine, that probably is true. $14 million of spending from A-PAC is a lot of money.

And the pro-Latimer dynamics were overwhelming in the last few weeks.

Bowman was the subject of a lot, a lot of negative advertising.

But there are a lot of reasons why Jamal Bowman lost this race.

A-Pack, its affiliated SuperPack, wouldn't have spent millions of dollars unless Bowman was already vulnerable.

They barely spent any money to try to defeat Summer Lee in Pennsylvania earlier this spring.

But Jamal Bowman has had an interesting couple of months, years in the House of Representatives.

Pulled a fire alarm during a House vote in 2023, trafficked in 9-11 conspiracy theories on an old blog, speculated that reports of Hamas

raping Israelis on October 7th was propaganda, which he later apologized for, voted against

...
