We're going to tackle one of the most controversial topics in America today by connecting the Super Bowl to sanctuary cities to the latest news from the borders are out of Minneapolis.

It's going to be a wild ride, but I'm here for it. I'm Jenna, and this is smarter news, and I am super excited to talk to you about this. It feels like we have a little bit of a pause, knock on wood, in some of the rapid fire headlines coming out of the state of Minnesota regarding Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. We also have news from the Borders'ar that I want to get to today. But because we have a little bit of a pause, I want to talk to you about what's really at the heart of the matter when we're looking at conflict that's

happening regarding enforcing immigration law. Because it may look different depending on where

we are in the country that these stories are coming up. But the topic is similar. And that is the topic

of sanctuary state, county, cities. And the topic is similar, and that is the topic of sanctuary state, county, cities,

and the way that those certain areas in America are interacting with federal law enforcement.

And we need a moment to sort of untangle all of this. So I'm excited to be able to do this today.

I actually calls up one of my colleagues at Smart News. I'm like, I'm so pumped to talk about

sanctuary cities. And she said, no one has ever said that before. I said, well, today's the day. Today's the day, because we have an entry into this story that feels natural and also gives us a second just to talk about something else other than politics. And we're going to talk about football because there's a connection here. So the Super Bowl this weekend is in California.

Some will say it's in San Francisco.

I'm a San Francisco

native. It's not actually in San Francisco. It's in Santa Clara, which is about an hour from San Francisco

South, but it is where the 49ers play the San Francisco 49ers in Levi Stadium. So that's where the Super Bowl is.

But San Francisco is the nearest big

city and there's a lot of focus on that city for obvious reasons. In one of the busiest tourist spots

of the city, Fisherman's Wharf, there are some billboards that have suddenly appeared.

And these billboards are quite controversial. I'm going to read them to you. If you're

listening on podcasts, if you're looking at YouTube, then you can see this as well. So on one of the signs,

it shows football players and it shows what looks to be immigration and customs enforcement

officers or Border Patrol. And what they're showing with the football players are words that

read, they can't win without
