We hear the term red flag often these days, especially when it comes to relationships. Many times

warning signs can appear early on with new or potential partners. Recognising those red flags and choosing

to leave a toxic relationship can be life-saving. In today's case, the red flags were present

from the start, but the victim wasn't able to see them. Through no fault of her own, she became

a tragic example of what can happen when those warnings are missed or ignored. I'm Naomi Channel

and this is real. Thank you. I'm Carol and Harry Jarvis met by chance in 1977.

29-year-old Harry was a bus driver.

He was originally from Grimsby in the north of England,

but he had been driving buses in London

when he met 15-year-old Carol. There was a 14-year age gap between them. Carol was a child,

but it didn't phase Harry, and he made his intentions very clear. He wanted to be with her romantically. In fact, he wanted to marry her.

Despite being a bus driver, Harry was also an alcoholic. Their relationship progressed and soon

they were married.

They both wanted to have children, and it wasn't long before Carol fell pregnant with their first son, Graham.

They lived in South London, and the following year, they had another child.

And then soon after that, they had a third.

But when Graham was eight, the couple started to fall out with Harry's family members, and they decided that they wanted to move away and start a new life somewhere else.

Carol had always loved Scotland. She'd been on holiday there many times before.

So the children were taken out of school and the family moved to Bathgate, a small town in

West Lothian, which had a population of just over 23,000 people.

Carol integrated herself into the local community.
