And the Hi this is the Josh Marshall podcast with Kate Riga. This is our last

episode of the podcast for 2023. It's been quite a year and at the end of this

episode we're gonna discuss sort of what kind of year it was.

It's a funny mix of things and I did a post yesterday kind of trying to take stock of what people are making of this year.

You know, there's always that genre of end of the year.

Opinion pieces and essays, you know, this was the year about this, this was the year about that, so we're gonna

we're gonna get into a little of that.

But before we do, we're gonna touch on some of the significant news events of the concluding couple weeks of

2023.

And the first we're going to start on is, you know, the ongoing issue that we've had for the last couple years which is

Donald Trump and the criminal justice system and how that interacts with

prosecutors and trial judges and probably increasingly in

2024 the Supreme Court we had one of the first plays at that a week or maybe a week and a half ago when

Jack Smith the special prosecutor who is running these two prosecutions of Donald Trump,

one in Washington, D.C., one in Florida.

As you know, the one in Florida,

they got this kind of Trump ringer judge

who has, how can you say it, basically enlisted in Trump's legal team and

his, you know, is managing through a number of strategies to delay that case, who knows how long. I think everybody has sort of gotten around to the

idea that she is not going to allow that case to come to trial anytime before the next presidential election.

So we're focused on the one in DC, which is really in many ways the more consequential

and significant one.
