Hi, this is Ibody and X, and welcome to another episode of The Candid Frame.

0:14.7

A week or so ago, I had the opportunity to go to a preview of a new exhibit here in Los Angeles. It's called

0:22.5

war slash photography, and it's an exhibit that is being shown at the Annenberg space

0:28.5

of photography in West Los Angeles. And it is a collection of photographs that document war,

0:35.8

conflict, ranging back from World War II to our current age.

0:40.4

And it is an amazing collection of work from some of the world's best photographers.

0:46.4

The remarkable thing about the exhibit is that it shows the kinds of images you would expect

0:51.0

for a photo show that revolves around war. But it also gives you glimpses

0:56.5

into some of the less obvious things that occur not only in the midst of battle, but the things

1:04.8

that happen back home with the people that are left behind. It's an amazing body of work and I have to commend the space and all

1:12.4

the people who work on this show because it's something that shouldn't be missed. I know that the

1:17.8

topic of war and conflict isn't something that people often want to go run off and see for an

1:24.8

exhibit of photography, but if you have the opportunity, if you live

1:28.5

here in Los Angeles, or if you're going to be visiting during the time of the exhibit,

1:33.2

you don't want to miss it. You really get a sense of the power of photography, and you get

1:39.0

to learn a lot about the people who go out there on a daily basis with a camera, with bullets flying,

1:46.9

with people screaming, with just chaos all around them, and they make the photographs that

1:52.9

end up in our newspapers, in our magazines, on blogs and websites. These images are important.

1:58.6

And the people who make these photographs are exceptional people.

2:03.4

And today's guest is a shining example of that.

2:08.0

Alexandra Vakin has been a photojournalist for several decades now, and even though she's primarily

2:14.3

known as a conflict photographer, her photography is more about storytelling and telling the story of people who are struggling for freedom in one way or another, regardless of one's politics, regardless of what side someone may fall in.
