Hi, Ashley here. This week's show is one I originally produced in 2014. It's about what happens when

daughters go into a family business. This is happening more and more these days, but as usual,

perceptions tend to lag a bit behind reality. Then there are the relationship dynamics that come

into play when you're working with either your dad or your mom.

There are five guests in this one, including one baby boomer and two millennials who've joined their family businesses.

I loved doing it and I hope you enjoy it.

I'm Ashley Milne Tite.

This time on the show, traditionally it's been men who follow their fathers into a family business,

but more and more daughters are taking this route.

I wanted to look into what kinds of challenges they face that their brothers don't.

For one thing, what happens when you are your brother's boss?

My feeling is that they really wouldn't want to report to me.

I've never actually asked them, and my father has never told them that they should report to the president.

So my guess is that they would have difficulty doing that.

Marty Better Goal is from Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from college in the 70s, and she went back to Cincinnati where her dad owned a vehicle leasing business. Now, she wasn't that interested in joining the business. She'd worked there one summer. It was fine. But she still didn't think about it as a possible career, and her dad wasn't trying to pull her on board. But a few years after graduating,

she was working for another company as a personnel manager, as they called them in those days,

and one day she got a call. I knew our controller at the family company, and she was somewhat

difficult to work for, and she reached out to me to ask if I wanted to be her assistant.

And so I came to work for her. She made the offer. My dad did not make the offer.
