The family was devoutly Catholic and her sister said that Margaret knew from a young age that she wanted to become a nun.

she professed her vows and joined the Sisters of Mercy at Our Lady of Pines just south of Fremont, Ohio.

The Sisters of Mercy is a religious order founded in Dublin, Ireland by Sister Catherine Macaulay in 1831.

Their goal is to help the poor, especially women and children by opening hospitals.
