Get the papers and/or interviews free on my website (no signup required) HERE. For the sake of the body of Christ we need to be aware of the problematic "translation" that is strangely and undeservedly popular, due to the reckless endorsement of pastors who should know better. I did NOT search for scholars who would oppose TPT. I did NOT check to see what denomination they were from. Nor did I ask them to slam the work or provide a particularly negative review. I simply hired scholars who were well-qualified and asked them each to review a different book from The Passion Translation of the Bible. They unanimously agree that it isn't what it pretends to be. Their full reviews and papers are available to you at the links above. My website: https://BibleThinker.org

Let's pretend that a Christian turns to you and they say,

I'm getting the passion translation. My pastor says it's like the best thing that has happened

0:07.3

to Bible translation in our lifetime. They love the passion translation. They feel like it's really

0:11.4

blessed them. If you had just like 10 seconds to tell them what they need to know about this work,

0:16.0

what would you say? I would say I love your passion for the word of God, but your passion shouldn't

0:20.8

be for the passion translation. It should be for the word of God as it is. And there are better

0:26.0

translations that accomplish that. What would you say? I would be very cautious about using the

0:33.6

passion translation as my Bible. No person should view this as their basic Bible. I question whether

0:42.8

it gives us accurate access into the words of God. But with the plethora of English language

0:48.4

translations and paraphrases already available, it is hard to see why TPT was even necessary.

0:56.5

Despite some of the wonderful passion and turns of phrase, there are also enough problems with it.

They probably should have the surgeon general's warning on it about its potential hazards.

1:10.4

If you had just 10 seconds to tell them what they needed to know about the passion translation,

1:14.6

what would you say? It is idiosyncratic and it uses innovative but not

1:22.0

historically credible approach to Bible translation. It's not a translation at all. That's a

1:28.8

misnomer. It's really more of an amplification from the opinion of the translator. Overall,

1:35.7

I found the passion translation of Galatians occasionally thoughtful, but largely haphazard

1:41.3

and amateur in its translation techniques. It lacks a consistent translation method and does not

1:46.5

take into account major trans and agreement in Galatians' Biblical scholarship. Many of the

1:51.7

additional flourishes and interpretive glosses that the passion translation includes are misleading

1:56.7

and overly speculative. Overall, I take the passion translation's Galatians as the personal

opinion of a missionary which may have some value in its own right rather than a consistently
