| 0:14.0 | Is there a good way to measure the pH of your blood? |
| 0:18.0 | This question comes up quite frequently. |
| 0:20.0 | Are you too acid or are you too alkaline? |
| 0:24.0 | Now, you can try to figure this out through symptoms. |
| 0:28.0 | And there is another test to measure your pH. |
| 0:30.0 | It's very, very difficult to do because as soon as you take your blood out, |
| 0:33.0 | and it's exposed to oxygen, that pH gets changed. |
| 0:38.0 | So it's very, very difficult. |
| 0:40.0 | But there is another indicator that you can look at to get a rough idea of what your pH is. |
| 0:47.0 | And that is to check your bicarbonates. |
| 0:50.0 | Okay. |
| 0:51.0 | Now, bicarbonates are an alkaline substance. |
| 0:55.0 | And it's actually considered one of the electrolytes, which is interesting, |
| 0:59.0 | because it does work with other electrolytes like sodium, chloride, and potassium |
| 1:04.0 | to help maintain electrical neutrality in your cells. |
| 1:09.0 | So in other words, it helps to buffer the pH. |
| 1:12.0 | In fact, your pancreas makes bicarbonates to neutralize the stomach acid that is coming into the small intestine. |
| 1:19.0 | But you also have bicarbonates in your blood to buffer the pH to kind of keep it at a certain level. |
| 1:25.0 | And they're an electrolyte because they carry in a negative charge when going through the body. |
