Summary

Bonus Episode: Denial (From the Grief Survival Guide) Dying Laughing with Jessimae In this bonus throwback episode from Jessimae’s Sharp Tongue's Grief Survival Guide miniseries, we dig into the first stage of grief: Denial. Recorded shortly after losing her mom, Jessimae reflects on what it feels like when reality just won’t sink in...the suspended state of disbelief, the way grief slows you down, and how talking about a loved one in the past tense can feel impossible. From crying in unexpected places, to realizing that “grief brain” is real, to learning how to actually listen to your body, she shares the rawest truths from the earliest days of her loss. This isn’t a clean, polished version of grief - it’s messy, tender, and brutally human. And it’s a reminder that self-care isn’t optional when your world has been cracked open. Today's episode is a little different. It's a re-release from my old podcast, Sharp Tongue, from a series I started after my mom died called The Grief Survival Guide mini-series.

0:17.2

The very first episode in that series was called Denial. And it feels right to bring it back now as we're diving into the stages of grief here undying laughing. This one's really raw because I recorded it when everything was still extremely fresh, when the grief brain was real, when even saying my mom's name in the past tense felt like trying to speak a foreign language.

I talk about denial as a river, how grief slows you down and puts you in this really weird

0:45.6

suspended state of disbelief. And it's kind of where the world is moving, but you feel like

0:51.0

you're standing still. I also share what it's like to grieve

0:54.3

back-to-back losses and the kind of vulnerability that comes when you're cracked wide open.

1:01.0

And maybe the most important part, I talk about self-care because when you're in that fog,

1:06.1

listening to your body and being gentle with yourself isn't optional. It is survival.

1:11.8

I'm not a stranger to grief, but in this episode, you'll hear me in the thick of it.

1:16.4

And maybe that's why I wanted to re-release it now, so that if you're in that place,

1:21.0

or maybe you've been there, you'll know that you're not alone.

1:24.1

So here it is.

1:25.1

It's the beginning of my grief survival guide, the mini series,

the revisited denial.

1:44.1

Hey, hi, everybody.

1:47.5

Yeah, my mom died.

1:50.1

I'm just going to come out and say it.

2:07.3

And this is basically my grief survival guide and going through the various stages of grief, which always, they don't always come in order. You know, there are different ways that they come. And you may experience one for a while and another for months and

2:20.6

you know it's it's not it's not so clean cut it's not you know uh something that is neat so if you're
