Summary

SURPRISE 🕊️ Stay True in the Word is here… and it's just the beginning. We are officially adding a second episode every week (!!) and this one is a little different. While Mondays are filled with powerful conversations with amazing guests, these Thursday episodes are your space to slow down, open the Word, and sit with Jesus. These episodes are packed with Scripture, reflection, prayer, and a reset for your heart.

And today… we're starting at the foundation.

In this very first episode, Madi dives into Matthew 5:3-10, the Beatitudes, and uncovers what it really means to live in the "upside-down Kingdom." A Kingdom where the blessed don't look like the world says they should. A Kingdom that starts not with what we do, but who we are.

We're talking about:
-What it means to be poor in spirit and fully dependent on God
-A holy grief over sin that leads to transformation
-Strength under control through meekness
-A deep hunger for what actually satisfies
-Living with mercy, purity, and peace in a culture that resists it
-And what it looks like to stay faithful—even when it costs you

These aren't just verses to read… they are the character of Kingdom citizens. This episode is an invitation to come back to what's true. To realign your heart. To be filled again. My prayer is that this becomes your weekly space to be grounded, encouraged, and drawn closer to God.

New episodes every Thursday at 7am EST 🤍

This is the introduction to the beatitudes that we are going to be reading today in Matthew 5

0:11.1

verses 3 through 10. We're going to go line by line through each of these verses. But to give you some

0:15.4

context, Matthew is one of the four gospels. And the gospels are the account of Jesus's life, what he did,

0:23.0

who he was. And that is how we can read about the life of Jesus. And so if you don't understand

0:29.1

the Gospels, if you've never read through the Gospels, I would highly encourage you to read

0:32.5

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And the gospel is the good news. And so this is all about the life of Jesus,

0:38.6

who Jesus was, what Jesus did, and why it matters for you and me today. These beatitudes

0:43.5

are so countercultural. And you will see that as we read each one. You're like, oh, that is

0:48.5

different than my natural sinful nature. Or ooh, that is different than the messaging and the

0:54.0

actions of the world today

0:55.6

and i love the beatitudes so much and that they're called the be attitudes and not the do

1:01.3

attitudes we live in a time and in a culture where everyone focuses on what we produce and on what we do

1:07.1

when jesus makes it so clear that it's all about the heart and who we are. It always stems

1:12.6

from who we are. And then from there, that is how we go and we do. And so we're going to start in

1:18.1

verse three, which says, blessed are the poor and spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

1:21.9

Poor in spirit. When I heard that at first, I was like, okay, so Jesus, the Lord just wants

1:25.6

me to be poor. That's not what it's saying.

1:28.0

It is speaking to having a posture of, I can do nothing apart from him. I am so dependent upon God.

1:36.7

There is no righteousness in me. There is no strength or sufficiency in me. I have nothing

1:41.7

apart from him. And we have to start with that posture because we cannot

1:45.7

accept Jesus as Savior. We cannot accept Jesus as Lord until we have a posture of I know I need saving,
