What's up, Apes?

Welcome back to the Daily Peels podcast slash video stream of the day.

0:11.1

My name is David.

0:12.0

It is currently 10.21 p.m. on this beautiful Monday, July 8th, 2024.

Thank you all for joining me once again.

And apologies to everybody watching on YouTube for this ridiculous glare. It is so late. So you're getting glasses, Murph here. I took my contacts out for the day. Spoiler alert, I do wear contacts. I know it's hard to believe. I'm not completely a genetic perfection, Marvel of the human species, as most of you assume. So no, I do hate to dissuade that idea. But in fact, if you are watching YouTube, I would strongly recommend going over to Spotify so you don't have to deal with this fucking reflection in my glasses the whole time. I was trying to figure out how to get it off, but nonetheless, it is here to stay, apparently. Either way, let's go ahead and talk markets for the day. When we're talking about WSO Alpha, there really isn't anything to say.

The portfolio was up slash down, a massive 0.00% for the session. We lost an astounding $24 for

1:01.8

the day. Meanwhile, the SP 500 was up 10 basis points while the NASDAQ was up 28 basis points.

1:07.3

Now, we did see some actual action from the Russell 2000 of about 70 basis points. But it was actually down intraday. It did open on a much higher note. A lot of people are starting to think about, you know, if, like there was this piece that was published, I forget who wrote it, but talking about the structural disadvantages to the Russell because basically when its stocks run up, they automatically have to sell them because they're going to go into like the larger cap index for the Russell or they're going to go into the SP 500. Now, if you ask me, the stock is running up. So that means you're selling at a high point. So I don't really know. It's the Peter Lynchian idea of hold on to your winners and trim your losers. That's what the S&P 500 does. So, you know, there's differences and incentives there. But nonetheless, let's go ahead and talk about some of the major

1:48.0

stories of the day. So moving down into the banana bits. First of all, very strange here because

1:54.0

apparently Corning, which is like a specialty glass maker, they make the gorilla glass that's in your iPhone right now,

2:00.0

and the iPhone that I'm currently unfortunately staring at this glare back at me. I can't get over this thing. But nonetheless, Corning is a specialty glassmaker. They absolutely ripped on solid earnings. Apparently, artificial intelligence is helping them out. I'm pretty sure it's in the design of the glass or something, but who knows, apparently AI is here to take not only human jobs, but inanimate object jobs as well. So we'll see how that goes.

2:34.8

Next up, check out that primer. Faxset put together. FaxSet does great research. Sign up with Faxet Insight. It is sweet. It's completely free, and they actually give you some good research, some raw data from the product itself. So go ahead and sign up for that. But they put together this primer on bank earnings because they're coming later on this week, so definitely

2:38.8

go ahead and check that out so you don't go broke on Thursday and Friday. Meanwhile,

2:42.4

alliances are finally starting to form in the streaming wars. We're seeing Paramount actually

2:46.9

finished its deal, which I'm going to talk about in just a quick minute. But more importantly, seems like they're trying to ally with literally anybody who's going to have them, because besides Top Gun Maverick, they have absolutely no content on Paramount Plus. I don't know who the fuck would ever pay for that unless it was part of some kind of a bundle, because what else he, is like the real housewives on there or something like i honestly don't know

3:07.8

what any of their titles would be besides top gun naverick but nonetheless there's a lot of alliances forming

3:12.8

the streaming market is finally maturing is what that means as it enters into that consolidation

3:16.9

phase it's hard to believe that it was a decade ago that the streaming was really started to heat up

3:21.5

with netflix and amazon prime and then much later you get guys guys like Disney Plus and all that other shit going into the market.

3:27.3

Really the only ones you need are YouTube, TV, Netflix, and HBO, and I will stand on that

3:31.6

all day long.
