This chat is with Declan, a DeBissau Academy alum that was able to break into investment banking

at Barclays coming from Tufts as a student athlete.

He joined the Academy early his sophomore year, and he shares how he was able to successfully

juggle all of his super days during the recruiting process.

Let's start out with just a short summary bio so the listeners can follow along.

Awesome, yeah.

So my name is Declan Murphy.

I'm a sophomore here at Tufts.

I grew up south of Boston, went to school in high school in Boston as well, and then I'm a sophomore

lacrosse player here at Tufts now. Go Patriots. Yes.

So let's just start out like, okay, so you kind of joined, you kind of found us pretty

early sophomore year, but I'd love to kind of even go rewind all the way back to freshman year.

You're an athlete, right? You were, you started a lacrosse like right out of the gate, right? Yeah, so I was recruited to Tufts to play lacrosse. I've been playing since my freshman year. Awesome. And so when you basically started out like freshman fall, were you like, I know I want to do invest in banking or was this more like you had heard about it? Or I'd love to hear like, was it teammates that told you about it, upperclassmen? How did you first figure out? Yeah. So when I came to Tuss my freshman fall, I at least knew I wanted to do something in finance. I didn't exactly know what that was going to be. It wasn't really built out for me at Tuffs to get to like get that exposure early on. So luckily, I had a few teammates of mine, seniors in the team last year, two or three of them

were doing banking or had done a junior summer banking internship.

Tried to just talk to have as many conversations with those guys as I could, learn as much

as I possibly could in that sense, kind of get a good base of what banking was.

And once they graduated that summer, I kind of looked more into that. I was coaching that summer,

just doing like a kind of relaxed summer. And I realized halfway through that should probably

lock it in a bit and get a better sense of what I should be doing. So I had a reached out
