Summary
Rejuvenaging is the art and science of growing older with enthusiasm.
The art is based upon what I've learned through my life, my experiences, my observations and what I've conceptualized over time.
The science is drawn primarily from the fields of positive psychology and neuroplasticity.
Rejuvenaging can be best accomplished if it’s a continuation of a healthy lifestyle that began at an earlier age.
It’s like the mental health equivalent of saving for retirement.
I hope to see the day when those who are over 65 and living unenthusiastically and unproductively, are the minority, while those who are over the age of 65 who are Rejuvenaging, will be the majority.
In this episode, you will learn:
- What Goal-Achieving Psychology is. (01:47)
- What neuroplasticity is. (02:37)
- Ron’s motivation for writing his book, “Rejuvenaging: The Art and Science of Growing Older with Enthusiasm.” (04:05)
- The areas of Rejuvenaging. (07:05)
- Ron’s goals around Rejuvenaging. (08:44)

| 0:19.0 | Welcome to Rejuvenaging with Dr. Ron Kaiser, the podcast devoted to |
| 0:26.0 | living enthusiastically today and tomorrow. I am your host, Ron Kaiser, and this is the |
| 0:35.8 | first of the personal training podcasts. These will take place approximately once a month |
| 0:43.3 | with generally three podcasts a month devoted to interviews, guests who will |
| 0:51.5 | be providing you with tools to enable you to live life enthusiastically and become the best |
| 1:01.0 | version of yourself that you can possibly be. Rejuvenaging is a word that I coined and I trademarked. |
| 1:10.6 | It's kind of an unusual legacy that I'll be able to leave my children and grandchildren in case |
| 1:16.7 | I run out of money, but Rejuvenaging is the art and science of growing older with enthusiasm. I want |
| 1:27.0 | to emphasize that it's both an art and a science. The art is based upon what I've learned through |
| 1:36.5 | my life, my experiences, my observations, and what I've conceptualized over time. The science |
| 1:46.6 | has really drawn primarily from the fields of positive psychology and neuroplasticity. Positive |
| 1:55.4 | psychology is a relatively new branch of psychology. Rather than focusing on negative aspects of history, |
| 2:03.1 | positive psychologists like myself are more concerned about what makes people thrive, what makes |
| 2:11.5 | them flourish. In many ways, I see myself as kind of the equivalent of a personal trainer at a |
| 2:18.8 | gym. In fact, I call my website the mental health gym. This branch of positive psychology that I've |
| 2:27.7 | developed more specifically is called goal achieving psychology. I'll get more into that in future |
| 2:36.0 | personal trainings. Neuroplasticity is a term that refers to the brain's ability to change and repair |
| 2:43.8 | itself. One of the most exciting aspects, stemming from the study of neuroplasticity is our knowledge that today, |
| 2:52.9 | the brain can keep developing throughout the lifespan. It can create new connections, new neuro pathways, |
| 3:02.6 | and even new neurons. This is really new and exciting stuff that many of us didn't learn back in the |
| 3:11.7 | years and days when we were in grad school or medical school. But we know that now. So let's use it for |
