Summary

For this month’s episode of the Axe Files on CNN, we took the show on the road and traveled across Iowa during a whirlwind week of campaigning at the state fair and beyond. We spoke with candidates, organizers, and voters, whose first-in-the nation votes will define the Democratic race. In the podcast version of the show, we hear directly from those voters on the issues that matter to them, what they’re thinking about the race and their role in the process.   To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. So I've asked this question of others, and you know this very well because you're a student

0:59.6

this decision?

1:02.7

So I guess my question is, to you, what is the answer to that question?

1:07.4

Is Iowa really the filter through which these candidates should pass?

1:12.3

And do you think they'll come a point when the national parties, when the national parties

1:21.2

decide this isn't the way to go?

1:24.3

It could.

1:25.9

Every four years I heard, oh this will be the last year, Iowa is important.

1:30.6

I was important because I was first.

1:32.9

People here in Iowa have, you know, they have no market on being good Americans who are

1:38.4

trying to do their civic duty.

1:40.9

And I don't think Iowa ought to be so parochial as I say, Jesus, if there's a better way

1:44.1

we can pick our presidents.
