Here we have a quote from Ken Ham. In a presentation I give to children about dinosaurs,

one of the fun things I do to teach them about how to think in regards to origins is to teach

them to ask, were you there when anyone talks about millions of years? The problem is,

that's not teaching. That is indoctrination. Real education involves giving kids to ask questions, telling them what it's like to actually

critically analyze evidence and providing them with good answers, even if your answer is,

I don't know.

Real education teaches you how to think, not what to think.

It doesn't contradict itself the way that Ken Ham's

poor attempt at teaching does. What do I mean by contradicting itself? Well, how do you think

Ken Ham would respond? If you were to give him that very same lazy attempt at a gotcha question

about the resurrection or the Garden of Eden, were you there? Did you see it happen? How do you really know? Instead of the

stammering answer that he expects us to give, he would point you to the Bible, the claim, not the

evidence. This works for answers in Genesis because they believe that every single word of the Bible

is completely and unequivocally true. That's why they famously don't believe in things like

evolution or the billions of years age of the earth, but they do believe in things like

unicorns, fire breathing, flying dragons, a worldwide flood, and that all eight billion people

that live on this planet are the product of extreme incest.

When you're literate in science, asking, were you there, is not a hard-hitting question.

But for creationist apologists, it's an everlasting thought-stopper.

It's Answers in Genesis' weak attempt to drag science and reason down to their level

because they know that they can't rise to ours.

And to hide the fact that their beliefs are so ridiculous that unlike Deep Time, you really do need to see it to believe it.
