We're going to be talking about the Ash Street Shootout, which was a gunfight that happened on September 23, 1989, in the hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington.

This gunfight happened between off-duty United States Army Rangers and a gang known as the Crips.

We all know how this is going to turn out, but it's still a hell of a story.

In 1987, Bill Folk was a staff sergeant and the second Ranger

battalion based at Fort Lewis, and he had moved to Ash Street in Hilltop, Tacoma,

and he bought the worst home on the block for $10,000, which today would have cost about $27,000,

and he wanted to restore this house.

Fast forward to the summer of 1989,

when Fulk gets home from a deployment to Panama,

at this point he has been in the army for 12 years. At the time, the Tacoma Police
