The emergence of zeca virus in Brazil in recent years has led to millions of infections.

The majority of these had no symptoms at all, but some individuals were pregnant and this led to devastating damage to their baby's

brains and caused a condition called microkephaly but it's only affected a very

small number of the infants. So did the others escape from harm? Well, a new paper published this week suggests not.

Chris Smith spoke to Christina Adams Wardorf who says that

Zechavirus infection can still do lasting damage to the developing nervous system

without causing obvious microkephaly.
