Summary

In this week’s show, I share a wonderful conversation I had recently with Mary Haseltine, a wife, mom, doula, childbirth educator, and author of Made for This: The Catholic Mom’s Guide to Birth. Mary shares beautifully about how she came to write this book, the ways in which women can connect through their experiences of pregnancy and childbirth, and what she wishes more women knew about the birth experience. This is an important conversation for us to have—namely, women seeking to support one another in faith and family life—and I am so grateful that Mary wrote this book. Here in a tick-infested New Hampshire, spring is in full

force. Finally, we've been enjoying some beautiful weather and some not so beautiful ticks. Do you get

1:03.3

ticks in your area of the country? I truly, truly detest these things. I don't know what God was thinking.

1:09.5

I know what he was thinking. He was thinking

1:11.0

Adam and Eve ate the apple. So ticks. They're really a horrible thing. They're so bad. And our dogs

1:18.2

bring them in. I find them on the kids. Three of my kids have had Lyme disease. Both of my dogs have

1:24.4

had Lyme disease. It's serious business. And I used to actually spend a lot of time

1:28.8

being really concerned about Lyme disease. And it is a serious illness. And I know people who've

1:32.9

suffered debilitating effects from having had Lyme disease go undiagnosed for a long time.

1:38.6

And I used to really struggle with this, this idea that how do we get away from it? Because there

1:42.5

are ticks everywhere. And you can

1:44.2

take all the precautions and you're still going to get ticks. And this is something that I,

1:48.8

as weird as it is to think about, this is a place where I've made some progress in my motherhood,

1:54.5

at least in the spiritual side of learning to trust God more. I felt like it was something I should
