In episode one, we went through a definition of metaphysics, and we described how we are all

knowingly or unknowingly wearing the metaphysical glasses that Aristotle provided us.

And this is largely based on a subject-object duality, which explains the materialist

viewpoint of the modern mind, frankly, right?

We think that there is an objective reality outside of us and a subjective filter or

lens or interpretation that we use to engage with that objective reality.

And when we take off these metaphysical glasses and we start to look at the world

in a new way, we see that causation and substance are illusory. Traditionally, when looking

through subject, object, metaphysics, we took subjects and objects to be what is real.

But Persig's allowing us to take a step back, a meta step, if you will, to say that

what we thought was real was really a consequence of the way we are looking at the world,

or the way we're categorizing the world, perhaps.

Episode two, we're going to go deeper.

We're going to unpack quality as the, what Piercig would describe as the sort of pre-intellectual

reality.

Yes.

It's the raw material from which we later derive subjects and objects.

Pre-intellectual cutting edge of reality.

That's what he's saying is fundamental here.

So we must keep in mind that we're using language to describe that which is ineffable,

which is beyond words.
