We're also in a very small room in los angeles so we we sympathize we should have done this when we were both in the same coast we'll figure it out one day anyway nice to chat with you over the phone um we're gonna do a couple things here we're gonna talk about your new book we're gonna talk about your podcast but the thing that i'm really excited about is you're going to explain how popular music works to me and our audience. This is the kind of

stuff I love the most. That's right. Do you want to just briefly explain how the podcast and then

the book came to be? Yeah, the podcast came to be. It all stemmed from a conversation about

Carly Ray Jepson, aka St. Jepson, the singer of Call Me Maybe.

That was the song that really started the show.

We realized there was so much to unpack of how this song worked, the compositional techniques, why it was one of the biggest hits of 2012.

And then we thought, you know what, we can share some of these insights with people through a podcast.
