So, John, today's bonus episode, it's a true crime case, but it actually takes place in a very unusual community, right?

0:17.0

Yeah, we're going into the Amish community in Ohio, and not just the Amish community but this is a very conservative element within the Amish

0:26.2

community.

0:27.2

Yeah, it's called the Schwartz-Truber Amish community which is actually a subset of, like you said, the Amishish community and say if he thought the Amish community was conservative these guys are way more conservative and what's really fascinating about this case is that there is a trail of murders and

0:46.9

unsolved cases just in this one community.

0:51.5

So John, before we get into the episode, let's talk about the characters in this story.

0:56.2

Yeah, I mean, there's really three characters. There's Eli Stutzman, Ida Stutzman, and their son Danny.

And EY and Ida, they got married in about 1975.

And so we're in Ohio, in the Amish community, and they have a boy together, which is Danny.

1:17.4

And Danny was about 10 months old, and Ida was pregnant with their second child when this incident in the barn takes place.

1:25.7

And the reason why we're talking about this case today is because Ida Stutzman died in a barn fire

1:31.0

in 1977. I'm going to read to you a letter that her husband Eli wrote

1:36.4

about that night. He says this last July one night approximately midnight my wife woke and said, there's a fire in the barn, and then she told me that she

1:46.9

had been asleep and was woken up by the bursting sounds of some kind from the barn.

1:52.4

So John, here you have Eli writing this letter

1:55.7

about his recollection of that night that his wife woke up that she had been

2:00.3

awake and she saw this fire in the barn. I guess what what I'm confused about is said

2:06.2

why did he let her go out to the barn? What happened that night exactly? So EY provided many different stories, many different versions as to what happened.

2:17.9

But there are many inconsistencies.

2:21.0

And one of them was that Ida was found wearing the same clothes she'd worn the day before.

2:27.0

And one of the interesting things about that is within the Amish community and within the community that they were in, what she wore was a very intricate and complex
