One of the things that's happened in Washington this week is an emerging split played out in the open between Elon Musk, one of the president's newest and closest allies politically, representative of a whole sphere of influence from Silicon Valley and related to the embrace of Donald Trump by these tech entrepreneurs to such a great degree in the past election.

And Peter Navarro, one of the president's longest advisors in terms of tenure on matters of the

economy and trade. This is played out in public in ways on X that included Elon Musk referring to

Navarro as dumber than a sack of bricks and then coining the term Peter Retardo to go after him.

It's one of these things that seems a little silly on its face.

But as so many other aspects of the Trump era have shown us,
