What's up, everybody?

0:12.8

Welcome to Tom Caron's Patriot's talk podcast.

0:15.2

It is the aftermath.

0:16.3

With Senator Phil Perry down in Washington, Phil, did Drake May win the quarterback competition if it was

0:26.4

solely up to performance this summer? I would say he did, Tom. He's played better, I think,

0:32.3

for longer over the course of the summer. He has played better certainly later. And to me,

0:38.6

that equals quarterback competition victory. I don't think that means he'll play week one, though. Yeah, I don't either.

0:44.1

And I think that you can say, yeah, they competed. We wanted to see what kind of a competition

0:47.8

he'd put up. And, you know, I guess if you looked at it, you could say that he won. We're still

0:51.6

going to go with the other guy. But yeah, he probably, he probably won that thing based upon what's on the field. But we're still going to go with the incumbent, even though he's not an incumbent, because of the experience factor, which is what has been stated over and over again. Was it misleading to call it a competition if they actually competed but the winner was preordained?

1:14.8

A little bit. Now, that's from my vantage point. I do not have the benefit of being in the

1:22.2

meeting rooms. And if these guys are being quizzed, for instance, if Jacoby Persec gets

1:26.6

100 out of 100 on every single quiz and Drake May is closer to 68 percent, you know, then that you could say that factors into the competition also.

1:35.9

And so that's why they feel more comfortable with Jacobi percent.

1:38.1

So that's essentially what Alex Van Pelt has told us, not the cold quiz thing, but it's the mental stuff that Jacoby Brissette brings to the table that makes them feel so comfortable with him as their

1:47.7

starter. Whereas Drake May is 21 years old. He's about to be 22, but he's 21 years old, and he still

1:54.3

has a lot to learn when it comes to how to play football between your ears. And so I think they would have enough of a argument against us to say, well, the competition's

2:07.9

happening all the time and you guys only see about 50% of them.

2:11.7

Or everything's a competition.

2:14.2

Everything's a competition.

2:15.4

And even if he looks better for these three weeks, he's still not better than an eight-year veteran.

2:18.9

And we are going to stand on that.
