If you live in the United States of America, you may live in an area that was once called

the Louisiana Territory.

The Louisiana Territory was not just the state of Louisiana as we know it.

It did include that, but it was much, much bigger.

It was actually a huge section of our country that made up most of the middle states all

the way from Louisiana and the south up to what is now the state of Washington in the

northwest corner of the country.

So why am I talking about a piece of the country that was once called the Louisiana Territory?

Well in this episode for Sophie, we are going to learn the story of some just amazing explorers,

named Lewis and Clark and their Native American guide, a young woman named Sacajawea.

I have to tell you Sacajawea is one of my most favorite women in history.

She was so brave and so smart, I find her exceptionally inspirational.
