Turned out he was a 47 year old hermit who lived in isolated bushland and he had been planning this for months, had come down and set up camp in a

temple stow park and then brought with him a bag, one bag with the rifle and one bag with all sorts of ghastly paraphernalia

to incinerate the whole place. On the 16th of July 2001 a dishevelled man with murder on his mind, arrived at the entrance of the fertility

control clinic in East Melbourne and shot dead security guard Stephen Rogers.

What unfolded after the murder was a groundswell of action and years of legal wrangling to fight for abortion safe access zones that went all the way to Australia's High Court.
