you know i actually had pitting edema in my lower legs in my late 20s so i'm a lot older now and i don't

0:09.4

have it so i'm going to share with you some of the things that i did as well as some other causes

0:14.7

common causes rare causes and what to do with each one so specifically i want to talk about

0:20.4

edema in the lower legs and the feet.

0:24.4

So a lot of people have it.

0:25.9

A lot of people take medication, but they don't actually at the same time correct the underlying cause.

0:31.3

So cause number one is sugar and a high carb diet, and as that relates also to a spike in insulin.

0:42.1

Okay, so it's kind of a double-edged sword. When you consume excess amounts of sugar,

0:48.2

what happens your body has to store the sugar as glycogen. Okay, what is glycogen? Glycogen is a series of glucose molecules

0:57.2

stuck together with potassium. Okay, so they're going to basically, when you consume sugar,

1:02.2

you're going to, it's going to use up potassium to store this glycogen and water. So with every

1:08.3

glucose that you're going to store, okay, you're going to store okay you're going to store three

1:12.1

water molecules okay so you're going to store a lot more water compared to glucose

1:18.1

when you consume glucose you know slash sugar so this is all retained fluid this is

1:24.1

why when someone goes on a low-carb diet, they just dump a lot of water.

1:28.1

Like real quick, within the first week, it could be anywhere between 7 to 13 pounds of water weight.

1:34.2

So eating sugar and refined carbs causes water retention from glycrogen.

1:38.7

It also causes a potassium deficiency when you consume sugar too.

1:44.0

And when you lower your potassium, okay, ratio to

1:49.3

sodium, we have this retention of fluid. So in other words, we all know that sodium retains

1:56.9

fluid. Well, potassium is the antidote to that. So the less potassium we have available because it's all

2:03.9

locked up within this glycogen, then you're going to actually cause retention of fluid just because of
