The 2023 NBA draft is in the books and if you like chalk, this is a good draft for you not only because there weren't a ton of surprises early on, but really more so because there weren't the trades that were forecasted at least around when the lottery came out that some of these teams might be looking to move off a picks.

0:56.5

And this is the fewest trades that I really can remember in some time for a draft.

1:02.5

Right. And I mean, especially at the top where there when we saw the lottery like, oh, I wonder what's going to do, wonder what Portland's going to do.

1:09.5

Maybe you see something with Houston or Detroit because they want to get better faster. And the only trade in the first nine picks was seven, four, eight with some other stuff.

1:19.5

And then you and then the only trade at in the top 10 that was different than that was 10 for 12 and some other stuff. And of course, we'll get into both those. But yeah, it was a very quiet, kind of big move deal that we of course have some other stuff to discuss.

1:32.5

And you know, that allowed other things to take center stage, which is always fun.

1:36.5

So Victor, one of the number one and he was emotional, he seemed to be surprised that he was emotional hearing his name called by Adam Silverett as the number one pick it.

1:47.5

And certainly if anyone was following his media appearances around the New York area, including his appearance on JG redics podcast, he was, I thought, just unbelievably polished, incredible in terms of interviews and appears to have every possible attribute you would want mentally.

2:07.5

Like he's, he kind of said this at one point. I think it was on JG podcast that he's like trying to win the PR battle to like with the, with his inner reason, but and that definitely showed. So I thought he was fantastic.

2:22.5

And just really excited to see what the future holds for him. He did, or we did hear from Greg pop of it, who says that he will participate in summer league to what degree we're not certain yet.

2:34.5

And I certainly hope he'll be playing on July 2nd in the California summer league just down the freeway for us in Sacramento, because I would like to be there.

2:42.5

It was a very cool moment to see live and just briefly I'll talk about some of the fun of being at Barclay Center is the first shop to have gone to since 2012, which was in New York, you know, the Barclay Center wasn't built that as far as I can recall.

2:55.5

It's definitely the draft wasn't there is it's a reminder of how massive a moment this is for all of these players, their families, their support systems, the people who made that day possible starting with them, but going far beyond that.

3:10.5

And one by the other was a great example there and there were a lot of spurs fans there are kind of maybe a pilgrimage of sorts to see a player get drafted not to watch and play in a game or anything like that.

3:20.5

And you could tell that he really felt the moment and that's great. That's what we want from these players. It is a massive life moment for them and my biggest advice to all of them would be to savor it because you don't you don't get to get drafted another time. So it was really fun to see a lot.

3:36.5

I've never covered a draft before on TV. You can see the stage. You can see the quote unquote green room, which I don't know why it's called that because it's just a it seems like it's a bunch of tables right in front of the stage, but just where is the setup where do they have the media where they do all the interviews and stuff.

3:54.5

So there are different places of media seating, but the main media seating, especially if you're fortunate enough to get there early, which I was is actually right behind the back table. So if you think of the stage as the front, the there are a couple of different, you know, rows of tables and then the furthest back row of tables, butts up directly against the main media section and the seats are very close together, but that also means that you're very close to everything else. And so like, for example, my seat was two rows of tables.

4:23.5

I was two rows away from high Mayhaka's now of the Miami heat. And so you're getting to see a lot of this stuff. And you also get the one of my favorite things to see in person is how the other tables react to to what happens. And so for example, when jet Howard got drafted Michigan guy, of course, his whole table erupts and his brother and drawn Howard and everything else.

4:46.5

But also Kobe Bufkin was at a different table who went to Michigan and then all the other guys who have a connection. So like, I think Hawkeyes might know him and also like you'd see the players sometimes stand up or like Victor one, but now I was pretty much out of the room when ball cool ball. He got drafted, but apparently his reaction was really strong. And so you get those kind of friendships and you see a lot of that on the, you know, the combine trail and everything else that these players know each other, but their families and their, you know, agents and another one of the really fun parts of it is that it's of course the draft has changed dramatically.
