On July 16, 2015, shortly after 10.30 a.m., those standing inside the Armed Forces Career Center in a Chattanooga, Tennessee strip mall, men and women looking to join or add members to the U.S. military forces, were blindsided when a man named Muhammad Yusuf Abdulaziz fired 30 to 45 shots into the office from his rented Ford Mustang

convertible. Thankfully, the deadly encounter resulted in only one injury, that of a U.S. Marine,

and Muhammad fled the scene and led approaching police on a six-mile pursuit.

Still buzzing off the first shooting, Muhammad pulled into the U.S. Navy

Reserve Center on M. Nacola Highway, rammed his vehicle into the security gate, then drove

to one of the buildings where the inspector-instructor staff of Mike Battery, 3rd Battalion,

14th Marines, and sailors were working. After Feinger shot at the actual building, the gunman stormed

inside and held his finger firmly on the trigger of his weapon. This time he fatally shot a sailor

before exiting through the back and entering the motor pool. Here he shot several more Marines

and, minutes later, re-entered the building where police had just

arrived and began shooting at them instead. After 39 minutes of absolute horror and 100 rounds of

ammunition fired from his AK-47, Mohamed Abdulaziz was shot and killed by responding police officers

who put an end to his reign of terror.

In total, five individuals perished at the hands of this gunman, four of which were U.S. Marines who died at

the scene and the sailor who took his last breath two days later in the hospital.
