for an application to purchase a handgun on July 3, 1993, and, three days later, obtained a 9mm from a Waterloo pawn shop. A week before Dustin

Honkin was scheduled to appear in court to officially enter his plea, Greg Nicholson, his 32-year-old

girlfriend, Lori Duncan, and her two daughters, 10-year-old candy and 6-yearyear-old Amber all disappeared off the face of the earth.

With no one to testify against him, Dustin backed out of his plea and the government was forced to drop its case.
