Last week I put out a poll on LinkedIn asking people what they wanted most from

0:08.0

their manager and the options were be left alone, be coached, that I trust them,

0:16.7

and then the last one was that they have your back. Now I find it ironic that I

0:25.6

I have to define these things because the surprising thing I learned from it was that a lot of

0:33.6

people said, if I trust them, then they have my back. And I was like, no, those are two

0:41.4

completely different things. And I had to like reply to comments. And some people still didn't

0:48.8

get it. I go, trust is believing what the other person says, that the other person does what they

0:57.1

say, that when they say the number eight, you know it's an eight, not a nine, not a seven,

1:04.2

it's an eight. That's trust. You believe what they say. You count on them to do what they say.

1:15.2

This is what's critical in all human interaction because without trust, the communication is not

1:24.0

accurate. Now, having your back is a completely different thing. Yes, you probably trust them if

1:32.1

they have your back, but not necessary. Having your back is more of protecting you, advocating for

1:41.3

you, supporting you. That's having your back. Now think about this. How many people in your life

1:49.6

have your back? There's a lot of people you trust, a lot of people you believe, but do they have

1:57.3

your back? Do they protect and advocate for you? Are they your champion internally at the company?

2:04.5

Are they your champion in life? And this came up on a couple of sales leadership

2:12.0

interviews that I did. And even though this interview may certainly does fit that show,

2:18.4

but I think it fits this show even better. Let me explain why. Because this doesn't even have

2:25.1

to be your manager. It can be anybody in your life that is so much on your side that they

2:34.4

will risk the relationship with you to help you. They will tell you the truth even when you don't

2:42.6

want to hear the truth. They will implement Solomon's paradox. Solomon's paradox is when someone

2:52.3

else can see something that you cannot see. Because as a mammal, guess what? Survival is your top
