Welcome to GrowCook Eat Arrange, the podcast of me Sarah Raven and Arthur Parkinson.

Arthur, in fact, is going to take a bit of time off because he's got two wonderful books

that he's working on. One's about to come out really quite soon, which is about hens, his passionate

love as well as gardens. We've often talked about is hens. It's called Chicken Boy, and it's very

autobiographical about his long and loving relationship with hens, and that's really exciting out in

April. The next is a companion book to his absolute romping bestseller,

The Flower Yard, which is the Flower Yard Journal.

And that's what he's going off to write now,

because that's out in the autumn 23.

So it's a follow-on, really, of the things that he's learned

and the new plants that he's grown.

So that is why, for the next few months at least, it'll be me, but I won't be on my own,

apart from maybe occasionally, I'll mainly be with other gardening friends and colleagues,

and with Josie the head gardener here, sometimes Adam, my husband, and lots of other people who you'll have seen previously or won't have met already.

Today, you've got me, Sarah Raven, and you've got Gary Newell, who is our head horticultural buyer, who has actually been with us over seven years now, which is so nice.

And the reason that I really wanted to have Gary on the podcast, and I hope every so often, is that whereas I'm a sort of cut-and-come-again productive, obsessive, he's very much more into his perennials

and his sort of mixed borders, shrubs, perennials, trees, but particularly he really keeps incredibly

up to date on new perennials coming onto the market that have been bred to be longer flowering

or more disease-res resistant or just even more beautiful

than their predecessors.
