So this morning, I want to talk with you about one of the most common and the most expensive confusions in the Christian life.

And it's this. You can't look horizontally for what only comes vertically. You follow

me? You can't wait vertically for what God has clearly called you to do horizontally.

See, we're talking about the difference between what God can give us and what people can give us,

and they're not the same thing.

So many people are quietly expecting other people to be their source of happiness,

their source of peace or joy, their source of identity, their source of worth and emotional stability.

Do you ever feel that way? Have you ever been the wife that said, if my husband

would just love me better, if he just would make me feel safe, then I'd be okay. Or a husband

who says, if my wife would just show me some respect and just treat me the way I deserve,

then I'd have peace. Or parents who say, if my kids would just

finally turn back to God and live right, then I could rest. We don't always say it out loud,

but that's how we're living. We're thinking those things and we're living that way. But here's the problem. When we do that, we're thinking those things and we're living that way but here's the problem when we do that
