Summary

If you've been a football fan for any meaningful amount of time, you know that great games on the Thanksgiving Day slate isn't a guarantee. That's what makes a Thanksgiving like this one so delightfully juicy. Packers-Lions! Chiefs-Cowboys! Bengals-Ravens, with Joe Burrow back! And then, to top it all off, Bears-Eagles on Black Friday. That's just about as good a set of games as you could hope for to kick off Thanksgiving weekend. Robert Mays, Derrik Klassen and Dave Helman preview those games on this episode of The Athletic Football Show

Welcome to the Athletic Football Show.

I'm Robert Mays.

The Week 13 preview, part one is what we've got for you guys today.

0:11.0

We're hitting all of the Thanksgiving games and the Black Friday game.

0:14.2

We don't always do this, but the Thanksgiving slate this year was just too good for us to ignore.

0:18.7

We've got Lions Packers, we've got Chiefs Cowboys, we've got Joe Burrow coming back, and then we've got a Black Friday game between the Bears of the Eagles that are two eight and three teams. This is a really good collection of four games over these two days. And so we wanted to spend some time digging into them. So we previewed all four of these games, me, Dave Hellman, Derek Classen. Let's get to it.

0:43.4

A little two-part week 13 preview here on the athletic football show. Obviously, a holiday

0:51.6

week, but so many good Thanksgiving games, I think in

0:54.6

the past, I can never remember what we do in any given year, but we haven't always previewed the

0:59.3

Thanksgiving games. This week, it feels like we'd be doing a disservice to the schedule if we

1:03.8

didn't at least talk about these games before they happen because the Thanksgiving slate is so

1:08.1

good. So today, we are going to preview the three Thanksgiving games and the Black Friday game.

1:13.7

And then tomorrow, we're going to be bringing you guys another kind of condensed mini preview

1:18.6

for the rest of the week 13 slate.

1:20.9

We're going to hit a couple games and then a bucket of games that all kind of fall into a similar

1:25.9

category.

1:26.6

So be on the lookout for that on Friday morning.

1:29.5

But today, we're going to dig into the Thanksgiving and Black Friday slate that is

1:33.6

offering up a lot of good games.

1:36.2

We're going to start with the game of the week presented by BetMGM.

1:40.4

The Packers at the Lions.

1:42.1

The Lions are two and a half point favorites. What we're going to do for all of these is that we're just going to hit one thing on each side of the ball. That's the plan here moving forward. We're going to start with the Packers offense and Lions defense. Derek, this is all you, buddy. The one thing you are looking for when the Packers have the ball in this game. This one is pretty simple to me, but the Packers don't run the ball well, the Lions defend the run the well. And so I think we're going to get out of this game is a lot of peer dropback. The Lions love to play a lot of man coverage. Jordan Love has actually been really good against man coverage this year. He is fourth in success rate, third in EPA per dropback,
