I'm Gianna Jalosi with your Fox True Crime Minute. He shot his son and waited 17 hours to call police. Michael C. Howard is an

attorney in Houston, Texas, and says he shot his adult son who has Down syndrome after mistaking him for an intruder.

The local sheriff says the 68-year-old didn't call the sheriff's office until about 17 hours later,

after he had used a tractor backhoe to take his son's body two miles away to a remote

area on his property, placed the body in a wood trash pile, and cremated him. Howard told investigators

that the whole thing was a horrible accident and that he cremated his son, quote, in accordance with

what his son would have wanted. Two days before the shooting authorities responded to a call Howard made

in which he reported the theft of some property.

Howard is being held in county jail and bonds totaling $20 million after being charged

with murder and tampering with evidence.
